Other Matches
Joplin Rifle & Pistol Club has NRA high power matches the
3rd Sunday of each month, and the next one is 9AM May 18. A bunch
of us will be going, so if you've never shot a match outside
of the Osage Orange, this is a good one to start with. C'mon
along.
The Missouri high power
Regional is the weekend of May 3, in Marshall (near Sedalia).
There are matches on both Saturday and Sunday. Some of us will
be going there too, so if you'd like to try a full-course event
(200, 300, 600 yards, with pits), get in touch with me or Les
Welch [moreorles_66725@yahoo.com]. Also, the Missouri High Power
Championship is at Marshal on May 31/June1. Broaden your horizons
and shoot other matches.
Ammunition
Purchase
We have a bunch of Danish .30-06 on Garand clips in bandoleers.
This is Berdan primed, so it is not reloadable. The Danish ammo
is reputed to be some of the most accurate around. Club members
may purchase it at the following prices: $3.00 per clip (8 rounds)
or $15 per bandoleer (6 clips of ammo).
We have a good supply of
GI .30 Carbine also. Price is $0.15 per round, $8 per box (of
50) or $15 for 2 boxes.
Coat Raffle
Paul Kemm won the raffle for a shooting coat. We sold just shy
of 30 tickets.
Carbines
As you may know, the CMP made some M1 Carbines available to clubs.
Some of our members were able to get their purchases in, so our
club has access to these rifles. If you have someone who would
like to shoot with us but who can't handle the recoil of the
M1 Garand, let us know and we'll set you up with a Carbine to
shoot at our meetings.
The CMP has suspended sales
now, but they intend to open up sales again sometime this summer.
Watch the CMP's web site for further info. If you are interested
in buying one, get your paperwork together and send it to me.
I will forward it to CMP with a letter indicating that this is
a club purchase.
Upcoming Club
Matches - League Awards
The summer shoots which are listed as "Club Matches"
in our schedule are also our "League" matches. That
is, at the end of the year we will give awards for scores shot
in the league. The basic rules are these: only scores shot in
Osage Orange matches count; you must shoot in at least 3 matches;
you may shoot any rifle, but unless it's a JCG-legal rifle (M1,
Carbine, '03), you are not eligible for awards unless 3 other
people shoot that rifle 3 times too. For instance, if 4 people
shoot AR-15s 3 times each, we will give an award for best AR-15
shooting. I would love to be able to give awards for best '03,
and best Carbine. There are enough matches so that a person could
win BOTH! (Shoot the Carbine 3 times and the '03 3 times). In
past years we have given awards (besides winner) for most improved,
most consistent, and top junior.
John C. Garand
Match Awards
Steve Milholland won our April 19 John Garand match with a score
of 456, and he gets his name on our plaque (again). Les Welch
and Jerry Patten both shot 442, but Les had more X's, so he took
2nd place. Medals, awarded by score, will be: Silver, Steve Milholland;
Bronze, Les Welch, Jerry Patten, Steve Kemm, and Mike Thorn.
Prizes given away by drawing
score cards from an ammo can included a Turner sling, shooting
cap, M1 rifle book, M1 Carbine book, Springfield 03 book, AR-15
data book, Jim Owens data book, 2 gun locks, and 1 gun lock .
