The Springfield
Benchrest Club has made it known
that they wish to be the controlling authority for all matches
at their club. The Benchrest Club will be purchasing the targets,
setting the fees, giving prizes, getting out the match program,
and publishing the match results (bulletin). They are not a CMP-affiliated
club. We will, therefore, list those events separately from our
official events. Many Sharpshooters will want to shoot in those
events, and you should be aware that the Sharpshooters will have
no official function at the matches. In reality, the only change
a Sharpshooter will notice is that we will not sell ammunition
or targets, and the scores will not be used in calculating prizes
for our "League" matches. Steve Milholland is a member
at the Benchrest Club, and he will be running both the High Power
and Smallbore Sporter matches.

Note
from SWAMPY (Steve Milholland): As Bill has
stated above, in addition to being a part of the Osage Orange
Sharpshooters, I'm also a member of the Spfld Benchrest Rifle
Club. I will be the SBRC contact and Match Director for
all of their Highpower and .22 Sporter events. If you have any
questions about any of the events on the SBRC schedule feel free
to contact me.
ALL shooters are welcome
at SBRC events. You don't have to be a member of any organization
to come out and participate.

Ammunition
Purchase
We still have 5 cans of Korean .30-06, for sale. Cost is $90
for a can of 400 rounds. We charge $16.50 for 55 rounds at a
match You save about $4.00 per 55 rounds if you buy a 400 round
can. Email me or call me. I will have it at the meeting February
22.
Raffle
We are raffling off a shooting jacket for $5 a ticket, 100 tickets
only. The winner gets the right to order the shooting jacket
of his or her choice. We'll pay the bill for the winner after
he or she gets the jacket. I just bought myself a new jacket,
and I also bought ticket #1. If I win, I'll sell the ticket back
to the club and the rest of the people can bid on it.
Carbines
The CMP has changed the rules for M1 Carbines. They must be sold
to the club based on a club officer's signature, but a Junior
program is no longer required. As in the case of the AR-15 rifles,
or any club sales, the club must account for the whereabouts
of the rifles after they are sold.

Match
We just received certification for the April and October matches.
The CMP will be selling pins to give as awards similar to the
medals given at the National Matches. We will be going to the
pins as our award, and of course the winner gets his name on
the plaque. In addition, I have purchased a number of items of
shooting paraphernalia (sling, hat, scorebook, etc), and we will
be giving these away by drawing from the scoresheets turned in.
Fun Shoot
The February 22 meeting is our Fun Shoot. Bring a prize for the
prize table. Last year some folks brought some interesting things,
old ammo, even an old press, and the shooters got to pick from
the table in order of score in the match.
Bring any rifles you want to shoot. The
first two matches will be for .22 cal. Scopes are allowed.
M1 or other rifles, including a scoped
hunting rifle, can be used in the other matches.
The program has been finalized:
1) .22 cal reverse score
2) .22 cal rapid fire standing
3) .30 cal rapid fire standing
4) Centerfire, break balloon, standing
5) Centerfire, break balloon, shoot on target, prone (or any
other position) rapid fire.
6) Find the $5 on a blank target.
Clinic
The March 22 High Power Clinic will be conducted completely outside
on the range. Let's hope it's a nice day. The classroom at the
range will be in use for a youth turkey hunting seminar. This
will give us the opportunity to start right out working on what
matters: position.
