Osage Orange
Sharpshooters Carbine Match This match is registered with the CMP and will be run according to the rules for as-issued M1 Carbines shooting issue ammo. Because the match is open to all CMP members and we will issue ammo, there will be a $10 registration fee. Juniors shoot free. Even though this match is very similar to the John C. Garand match, it is worth noting a few of the differences and similarities in the rules. This is a 40 shot match, and we will issue one box of GI ammunition (50 rounds). The course of fire is 10 sighters (or fewer), 10 slow prone, 10 rapid prone, 10 rapid sitting or kneeling, and 10 slow standing. Loading the Carbine in both slow and rapid fire is a problem in competition because the bolt does not easily remain open, so please pay attention to the rules on page 51 of the CMP rulebook: http://www.odcmp.com/Competitions/Rulebook.pdf 1. In slow fire, shooters may load from a magazine loaded with 5 rounds. But the muzzle of the rifle must always be pointed downrange, and a loaded rifle may not leave the competitors hands. 2. In rapid fire, after the commands to stand and load have been given, the competitor will close the bolt on an empty chamber then insert a magazine of 5 rounds, leaving the chamber empty. Only after the shooter has assumed the position (sitting, kneeling, or prone) will the shooter cycle the bolt to load the first round in the chamber. Be sure to turn in your score cards, as I will be reporting scores to the CMP. Medals will be given according to the CMP standards: M1 Carbine Match July 14 and
15th, Joplin http://www.joplingunclub.com/content/view/28 and call Les if you have any questions. Les also runs the Highpower matches at Joplin, and there is an 80 shot match (plus 8 sighters) on Sunday, July 15. Cash prizes are given by classification, and the more guys show up, the more cash is given out, so this is a great match to attend. July 21 and
22, De Soto, Kansas You can shoot either day or both. Firing starts at 8am, and you need to be there before 7:30 to get squadded. A bunch of us will probably stay in the Super 8 motel, and some may even drag a travel trailer to the range. I believe a couple people even bunk in in the clubhouse occasionally, so this match can be attended pretty easily. The range is about half way between Lawrence and Kansas City, and it takes me about 2 hours and 45 minutes to drive there. Ammunition
News As you probably know, the CMP is out of Lake City Ball .30-06 ammunition. They will continue to have Greek .30-06 ammunition for a few years, and I think it is better ammo than the Lake City. Well see what happens to our club allocation, because I have vouchers for 8 cases of Lake City (to support our JCG matches) that I was planning on turning in at Camp Perry (saves shipping costs). Once exercised, the Sharpshooters will have approximately 20 cases of Lake City for use in future events. We will continue to sell this to club members in small amounts (a can or less) to support your shooting. I expect there will be a run on ammunition in the next 12 months, so you might want to think about buying a case of Greek ammo for yourself. It will never be any cheaper, and theres no better way to acquire brass for reloading than already stuffed with powder and bullet. The club gets a 10 percent discount on surplus ammo purchases. If you want to purchase a case, or you and some buddies want to split a case, we can put together a club purchase and save you a little. Really Good
