Steve Milholland will be
running a smallbore sporter match at the Springfield Benchrest
Club on April 13, Sunday. It will start sometime after 1 PM.
There is another activity before this match, so the start time
is not precisely 1 PM. This is a great chance to get out and
shoot any small bore rifle you have. It just has to hold 5 rounds
for the rapid fire events. The match consists of 65 rounds;
5 rounds for sighting, then 10 rounds slow and 10 rounds rapid
fire from each of the 3 positions (standing, sitting, prone).
The rapid fire strings are shot as 2 separate strings of 5 rounds
each, with time in between to reload clips or magazines.
Our John C.
Garand Match is
coming up April 19. Be sure to send your entry in to Bill Corcoran
to reserve your place.
Other
Matches
Joplin has high power matches the 3rd Sunday of each month, but
Easter interferes in April, so their next match is Sunday, April
13 at 9 AM. A bunch of us will be going, so if you've never
shot a match outside of the Osage Orange, this is a good one
to start with. C'mon along.
The Missouri high power
Regional is the weekend of May 3, in Marshall (near Sedalia).
There are matches on both Saturday and Sunday. Some of us will
be going there too, so if you'd like to try a full-course event
(200, 300, 600 yards, with pits), c'mon along.
Ammunition
Purchase
We have a bunch of Danish .30-06 on Garand clips in bandoleers.
This is Berdan primed, so it is not reloadable. The Danish
ammo is reputed to be some of the most accurate around. Club
members may purchase it at the following prices: $3.00 per clip
(8 rounds) or $15 per bandoleer (6 clips of ammo).
We have a good supply of
GI .30 Carbine also. Price is $0.15 per round, $8 per box (of
50) or $15 for 2 boxes.
Raffle
Rember that we are raffling off a shooting jacket for $5 a ticket,
100 tickets only. The winner gets the right to order the shooting
jacket of his or her choice. We'll pay the bill for the winner
after he or she gets the jacket. We'll have the drawing for
the jacket after the John Garand match on April 19.
Carbines
As you may know, the CMP made some M1 Carbines available to clubs.
Some of our members were able to get their purchases is, so
our club has access to these rifles. If you have someone who
would like to shoot with us but who can't handle the recoil of
the M1 Garand, let us know and we'll set you up with a Carbine
to shoot at our meetings.
The CMP has suspended carbine
sales now, but they intend to open up sales again sometime this
summer. Watch the CMP's web site for further info.
John C. Garand
Match Awards
At the National Matches, the CMP gives medals based on score:
256-266 Bronze; 267-275 Silver; 276-300 Gold. This is a 300
point match. The CMP has not completely formalized the medal
program for club matches or made the medals available, but we
will establish our own medal classes based on the percentages
calculated from the numbers above. We will award Bronze medals
to scores 425-444, Silver for 445-459, and Gold for 460-500.
If the CMP announces any changes we will use their numbers, and
when they finally make the medals available, we will provide
them to the medal winners.
The match winner will get his name on the plaque as well as (I
assume), a gold medal and a cash award. All other prizes will
be awarded on random drawing. We have a Turner leather sling,
a shooting hat with blinders, scorebooks, NRA reprints on the
M1, Carbine, and '03, and a few other things.
