Beginning Competition
Rifle Shooting Clinic

 What:   An introduction to the principles of competitive bullseye shooting with rifles.  Classroom instruction on one Saturday will be followed by an introductory match on the following Saturday.   Rifle matches such as Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) John Garand matches for the .30 caliber M1 Garand rifle and NRA Highpower rifle will be discussed.   CMP matches for .22 caliber rifles, the Rimfire Sporter matches. will also be discussed.

When:
Sat. March 3, 2007    Classroom instruction.
   
Bring equipment (If you have it... not required.) but
no ammunition

Sat. March 10, 2007    Introductory John C. Garand Match
Bring your own rifle & gear if you have it.   Loaner rifles & gear available.

8AM start time for both dates.

Cost: No fee for either activity. GI ammunition will be provided at a cost of $15 for the match on March 10. Competitors may use their own ammo in their own rifles, but must purchase club ammo if they borrow a rifle from the club.

Purpose:   To introduce new shooters to the most popular disciplines in rifle competition.

Who May Attend:   Anyone with an interest in competition rifle shooting using iron sights. No experience necessary. For the clinic and introductory match, all equipment may be borrowed from the club.

Certification issues:   Completing the match on March 10 fulfills the Marksmanship certification portion of the requirements for purchasing a rifle from the CMP.

Sight picture, sight alignment, and trigger squeeze.
The 3 basic positions, standing, sitting, and prone.
